The New World
The year is 2143. The United States were creating the world’s first nuclear public transport to Mars when a faulty fusion reactor exploded during flight. When the reactor blew the transport was over Russia, where they were to get a last minute check over electronics by the world’s leading nuclear scientists. With no engine to power the transport, it flew straight into one of the most highly populated city in the world. Russia saw this as an attack, and soon launched hydrogen bombs towards the US. With the explosions so massive, most other countries with the means to defend themselves against nuclear threats had no choice but to join the fight. What started as a colonization mission to Mars, ended up as the 3rd World War.
Every major city was reduced to ash. Only small pockets of settlements remained throughout the world. The only real stable government anywhere was the United States. After the war they now called themselves the Enclave, and decided it best to capture every person in the country under the age of 20 and send them to secluded bunkers 30 miles underground. The bunkers had enough supplies to last the people three years. They estimated it that long for the radiation to die away. Anyone under 20 years of age were to be locked up until the radiation in the atmosphere died away. Many experts working for the Enclave thought the radiation would affect younger people faster than it did adults.
The Enclave thought of themselves as helping the young men and women, but they treated anyone that entered those bunkers like dirt. It was very cramped in the bunkers with a big 30,000 people on average living in them. Many of them sick with disease from the cold damp concrete bunker. The Enclave fed them, cold rice with water and bread. This would keep the children alive, but only just. Everyone under 20 knew of the acts of tyranny the Enclave were doing, and had no interest in going into a bunker with armed guards. Better die of radiation poisoning and be free, than be locked away with many sick civilians.
Now, the 20 year olds and younger fight the Enclave to try and survive in the life they have brought them. They see bunkers as being prisons and attempts at making the world better without children. Most have gone to camps, established by the young men and women, for children to come for food and water. But others have died trying to find the camps, hidden within the mountains.
